Aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations decreased 6.3% in November 2010 from November 2009. These airports reported 426,547 movements in November compared with 455,466 movements in November 2009. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario (33,305 movements) followed by Vancouver International, British Columbia (21,875 movements) were the most active sites in November 2010. Year-over-year increases were reported by 35 airports.
There were 299,114 itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) reported in November 2010. This represents a 4.8% decrease (-15,189 movements) compared with the same month a year earlier. The year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 63.6% (477 movements) at Wabush, Newfoundland and Labrador to a decline of 59.4% (-1,069 movements) at Edmonton/Villeneuve, Alberta. Year-over-year increases in the number of itinerant aircraft movements were reported by 40 airports in November 2010.
In November 2010, there were 127,433 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded. This represents a decrease of 9.7% (-13,730 movements) compared with the previous year. Montreal/St-Hubert, Quebec recorded the largest gain, increasing by 2,052 local movements (+23.5%).
Itinerant movements: domestic, transborder and international
There were 249,719 domestic itinerant movements reported in November 2010, down 6.6% (-17,504 movements) from November 2009.Vancouver International, British Columbia (16,141) followed by Calgary International, Alberta (14,586) reported the greatest number of domestic itinerant movements.
Fifty-six airports reported 74,674 transborder itinerant movements (between Canada and the United States) in November 2010, up 4.4% (+3,114 movements) from the previous year. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario (15,099) reported the greatest number of transborder itinerant movements. This represents 20.2% of the total transborder itinerant movements.
In November 2010, forty-six airports reported 21,193 other international itinerant movements, down 12.3% (-2,983 movements) from the previous year. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario (4,201) recorded the greatest number of other international itinerant movements. This represents 19.8% of the total other international itinerant movements reported.
