On August 4, 2010, work was begun to close runway 16/34 at Edmonton City Centre Airport.

Effective July 1, 2010, NAV CANADA has changed the method it uses to collect local movements at the airports with air traffic control towers. This change may make comparisons to previous months’ counts unreliable.

Lightning storms, combined with dry conditions, caused a rash of forest fires in northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and in the British Columbia interior in July 2010.

Effective June 23, 2010, Virgin America Airlines launched direct daily service between Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario and California’s two busiest terminals, in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Skyservice, Canada’s second-largest charter carrier, ceased operation at the end of March 2010.

Porter Airlines expanded its service to include St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on October 5, 2009, Boston Logan effective September 14, 2009, and Thunder Bay International Airport effective June 26, 2009.
