The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics resulted in regular carriers scheduling additional flights and an influx of corporate jets. Conversely, airspace restrictions and enhanced security reduced the number of movements of the smaller local carriers.

Significant winter storms struck the eastern seaboard of Canada and the United States in early February 2010, forcing flight delays and cancellations.

Porter Airlines expanded its service to include St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on October 5, 2009, Boston Logan effective September 14, 2009, and Thunder Bay International Airport effective June 26, 2009.

In June 2009, Air Canada added daily non-stop service between Calgary and Portland, Oregon as well as between Calgary and London, United Kingdom. Year-round daily non-stop service between Montreal and Geneva commenced on June 1, 2009.

Effective May 4, 2009, Air France added another daily flight out of Montreal/Trudeau to Paris/CDG.

On May 15, 2009, Air Canada launched a new daily non-stop service between Calgary and San Diego, CA.
