Emergency measures put in place in response to the attempted terror attack on December 25, 2009 resulted in numerous flight delays and cancellations.

A major winter storm in the eastern United States and Atlantic Canada resulted in the cancellation of flights between Canadian airports and cities on the American eastern seaboard.

Beginning in early November 2009, WestJet has initiated seasonal flights to new sunny destinations as well as increased the frequency to others from cities throughout the country.

From mid-October 2009 until the end of April 2010, WestJet will fly five times weekly between Toronto and Miami and four times weekly between Toronto and Atlantic City.

Porter Airlines introduced St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador as its newest destination in Atlantic Canada on October 5, 2009. As part of its expanded service to the region, the airline added four daily non-stop round trip flights between St. John’s and Halifax, with ongoing direct flights also connecting Ottawa and Toronto.

Effective September 14, 2009, Porter Airlines added three daily roundtrip flights between Boston Logan International and Toronto City/Centre.

Porter Airlines has added three daily round trip flights on weekdays and two daily round trip flights on weekends between Toronto City Centre Airport and Thunder Bay International Airport effective June 26, 2009.

In June 2009, Air Canada has added daily non-stop service between Calgary and Portland, Oregon as well as between Calgary and London, United Kingdom. Year-round daily non-stop service between Montreal and Geneva commenced on June 1, 2009.

Effective May 4, 2009, Air France added another daily flight out of Montreal/Trudeau to Paris/CDG.

On May 15, 2009 Air Canada launched a new daily non-stop service between Calgary and San Diego, CA.

Porter Airlines has added five daily round trip flights between Toronto City Centre Airport and Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport as well as four daily roundtrip flights between Toronto City Centre Airport and Ottawa’s MacDonald-Cartier International Airport effective April 15, 2009.

Air India increased the scheduled number of flights between Toronto and Amritsar (via London) from three weekly flights to seven flights per week effective March 29, 2009.

Effective March 2009 Unaalik Aviation, on behalf of First Air, operates five scheduled flights between Rankin Inlet and Baker Lake.

AeroMexico began new daily service between Toronto and Mexico City on March 2, 2009.
