Aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations remained virtually unchanged (-0.1%) in May 2008 compared to May 2007. These 95 airports reported 591,675 movements in May 2008 compared with 592,439 movements at 95 airports in May 2007.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased slightly (+0.6%) up 2,304 movements in May 2008 compared with the same month a year earlier.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) decreased by 1.6% (-3,068 movements) in May 2008 compared with May 2007.
The 42 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers reported 467,255 aircraft take-offs and landings in May, almost no change (-0.3%) compared with May 2007. Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 21 of these airports in May 2008. The variations ranged from an increase of 32.6% at London, Ontario to a decline of 39.3% at Oshawa, Ontario.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) remained constant in May compared with the same month a year earlier. Year-over-year variations in itinerant movements ranged from a 20.1% increase (+1,399 movements) at London, Ontario to a decline of 29.0% (-834 movements) at Sudbury, Ontario.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) decreased slightly (-1.6%) down by 2,535 movements in May compared with May 2007. London, Ontario recorded the largest gain in local movements, increasing by 3,230 movements (+44.5%) while Hamilton, Ontario reported 1,280 fewer movements (-60.6%) compared with May 2007.
The 53 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA flight service stations reported 124,420 aircraft take-offs and landings in May, up a slight 0.6% (+783 movements) compared with May 2007. Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 29 of these airports in May 2008. The variations ranged from a 142.5% increase (+3,390 movements) at Fredericton International, New Brunswick to a decline of -44.1% (-904 movements) at Terrace, British Columbia.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 1.5% (+1,316 movements) in May compared with the same month a year earlier. Year-over-year variations in itinerant movements ranged from a 109.1% increase (+848 movements) at Brandon Municipal, Manitoba to a decline of 50.5% (-1,874 movements) at St. Catharines, Ontario.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded in May 2008 decreased by 1.5% (-533 movements) compared with the same month a year earlier. Fredericton International, New Brunswick recorded the largest gain in local movements, increasing by 2,080 movements (+920.4%) compared with May 2007.
