For the eleventh consecutive month, aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations increased in year-over-year monthly comparisons. These 96 airports reported 505,135 movements in April 2007 compared with 484,635 movements at 97 airports in April 2006, an increase of 4.2% (+20,500 movements).
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 1.8% (+6,144 movements) in April 2007 compared with the same month a year earlier.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 9.5% (+14,356 movements) in April 2007 compared with April 2006.
Airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers
The 42 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers reported 400,069 aircraft take-offs and landings in April, up 4.7% compared with April 2006 (382,266 movements). Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 24 of the airports in April 2007. The variations ranged from 97.4% at Moncton/Greater Moncton International to -31.5% at London.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 2.8% (+7,376 movements) in April compared with the same month a year earlier. Year-over-year variations in itinerant movements ranged from a 71.3% increase (+2,436 movements) at Moncton/Greater Moncton International to a decline of -31.0% (-520 movements) at St-Jean, Québec.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 8.5% (+10,427 movements) in April compared with April 2006. Year-over-year variations in local movements ranged from a 152.9% increase (+2,889 movements) at Kelowna to a decline of 53.1% (-528 movements) at Edmonton International.
The 54 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA flight service stations reported 105,066 aircraft take-offs and landings in April, up 2.6% compared with 55 flight service stations in April 2006 (102,369 movements). Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 33 of these airports in April 2007. The variations ranged from 61.7% at Terrace, British Columbia to -31.2% at Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased by 1.7% (-1,232 movements) in April compared with the same month a year earlier. Year-over-year variations in itinerant movements ranged from a 47.8% increase (+414 movements) at Terrace to a decline of 37.1% (-269 movements) at Dawson Creek.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 13.5% (+3,929 movements) in April compared with April 2006. St. Catharines showed the largest increase in local movements in April 2007 compared with April 2006, increasing by 924 movements (+57.1%) to reach 2,542 movements.
