For the eighth consecutive month, aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations increased in year-over-year monthly comparisons. These 96 airports reported 395,423 movements in January 2007 compared with 363,999 movements in January 2006, an increase of 8.6% (+31,424 movements).
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 4.9% (+13,677 movements) in January 2007 compared with the same month a year earlier. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International was the most active airport for itinerant movements with 34,723 movements, up 4.7% (+1,555 movements) from January 2006.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 20.3% (+17,747 movements) in January 2007 compared with January 2006. Abbotsford airport was most active for local movements with 8,763 movements, up 41.4 % (+2,565 movements) from January 2006.
The 42 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers reported 315,722 aircraft take-offs and landings in January, up 8.2% compared with January 2006 (291,797 movements). Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 28 of the airports in January 2007. The variations ranged from 99.8% at Moncton/Greater Moncton International to -47.1% at Chicoutimi/St-Honoré.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 5.6% (+12,378 movements) in January compared with the same month a year earlier. Year-over-year variations in itinerant movements ranged from a 66.7% increase (+1,865 movements) at Moncton/Greater Moncton International to a decline of 28.4% (-188 movements) at Chicoutimi/St-Honoré.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 16.1% (+11,547 movements) in January compared with January 2006. Year-over-year variations in local movements ranged from a 261.5% increase (+136 movements) at St. John’s International to a decline of 58.6%(-632 movements) at Chicoutimi/St-Honoré.
The 54 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA flight service stations reported 79,701 aircraft take-offs and landings in January, up 10.4% compared with January 2006 (72,202 movements). Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 31 of these airports in January 2007. The variations ranged from 380.0% at Whitecourt, Alberta to -37.5% at Inuvik/Mike Zubko.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 2.3% (+1,299 movements) in January compared with the same month a year earlier. Year-over-year variations in itinerant movements ranged from a 72.4% increase (+428 movements) at Whitecourt, Alberta to a decline of 41.5% (-381 movements) at Inuvik/Mike Zubko.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 39.9% (+6,200 movements) in January compared with January 2006. Whitecourt, Alberta showed the largest increase in local movements in January 2007 compared with January 2006, increasing by 3,520 movements (+785.7%) to reach 3,968 movements.
