Domestic sales of refined petroleum products in August 2012 totalled 10.4 million cubic metres, 638.5 thousand cubic metres (+6.6 %) higher than August the previous year.
January to August 2012 domestic sales of petroleum products were up 3.1 million cubic metres (+4.4 %) compared to the same eight month period in 2011.
Motor gasoline sales totalled 4.2 million cubic metres, 103.6 thousand cubic metres (+2.5 %) higher than August 2011. Diesel fuel oil sales totalled 2.9 million cubic metres, 100.1 thousand cubic metres (+3.6 %) higher than a year earlier.
Refinery production in August 2012 totalled 9.8 million cubic metres, 249.2 thousand cubic metres (+2.6 %) above August 2011.
Deliveries of crude oils to domestic refineries totalled 9.2 million cubic metres, 914.1 thousand cubic metres (+11.1 %) above August 2011.
Refinery receipts of domestic crude oils totalled 5.8 million cubic metres, 641.6 thousand cubic metres (+12.4%) higher than a year earlier.
Crude oil imports totalled 3.4 million cubic metres 272.5 thousand cubic metres (+8.8 %) above August 2011. Imports represented 36.6 % of total refinery requirements.
OPEC sources led by Algeria and Iraq accounted for 52.5% of foreign supply. Supply from the North Sea, comprised of Norway and the United Kingdom, accounted for an additional 12.5 %.
Crude oil and refined petroleum product inventories held by refineries and major distributors closed August 2012 at 29.7 million cubic metres.
Petroleum product inventories totalled 8.8 million cubic metres.
Most major product categories posted a draw on inventories. Motor gasoline was the only major product to post an increase in inventories compared to the close of August 2011.
