Refinery production levels decreased 5.9% compared to the same month a year earlier. The largest decreases were seen in petrochemical feedstock (-151.7 thousand cubic metres or -27.7%), motor gasoline (-151.3 thousand cubic metres or -3.9%) and diesel fuel oil (-125.0 thousand cubic metres or -5.1%). Year-to-date production decreased 2.0% over the same period a year earlier.

The total volume of crude oil and equivalents received by refineries amounted to 9,399.6 thousand cubic metres, a decrease of 2.6% when compared to July 2004. This decrease was due to lower receipts of domestic crude (-8.2%) but was offset by an increase in domestic crude receipts (+3.4%). Year-to-date refinery receipts totalled 62,602.9 thousand cubic metres, down 3.0% from the same period a year earlier.

July, imports of crude and equivalents from Norway accounted for 22% of total imports, followed by Algeria at 16% and United Kingdom at 15%. Year-to-date imports are down 1.9%.

Sales of refined petroleum products totalled 8 642.3 thousand cubic metres, down 1.3% from July 2004. The decrease was largely due to lower demand for petrochemical feedstock (-113.0 thousand cubic metres or -22.3%), heavy fuel oil (-33.5 thousand cubic metres or -5.6%) and in motor gasoline (-33.2 thousand cubic metres or -0.9%). Year to date sales for all refined products was down 0.4% from the same period in 2004.
