This publication presents the results of the 2011 version of the Industrial Water Survey which gathered information on the intake and discharge of water by industrial users in the manufacturing industries, mining industries and thermal-electric generating industries. These are some of the main water-using industries in Canada.
In addition to the Industrial Water Survey, Statistics Canada conducts a suite of surveys that cover other areas of water use including the agriculture and residential sectors. All of these data are used in Statistics Canada’s Water Use Account, part of its existing suite of Physical Flow Accounts.
Data from the Industrial Water Survey will also be used to fulfill the requirements for producing water-related information as part of the Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) published by Environment Canada. The data from this survey are used by government, university and other water researchers.
