This chart shows the proportion of irrigating farms that used a given source of water for agricultural purposes in 2007. The different sources of water are: underground water or well water, on-farm surface water, water from a rain collection system and off-farm water. The data are grouped by region, including the Atlantic provinces, Quebec–Ontario, the Prairies and British Columbia. In the Atlantic provinces (86%) and in Quebec–Ontario (78%), farms that irrigated principally used surface water that was located on-farm. In the Prairies and British Columbia, farms that irrigated used for the most part off-farm water sources.
