This chart shows the provincial distribution of farms that irrigated, as well as the area of land irrigated and the volume of water used for irrigation in 2007. British Columbia had the most farms that irrigated: 33% of farms in Canada that irrigated their crops were located in this province, followed by Alberta (28%) and Ontario (19%). The majority of Canadian farmland that was irrigated was located in Alberta (60%). This was followed by British Columbia (13%) and Saskatchewan (12%). Alberta also had the highest volume of water used for irrigation in the country, accounting for 73% of the total amount of water used for irrigation. Farms in British Columbia accounted for 11% of the volume of water used for irrigation, followed by Saskatchewan at 9%.
