Note to users and revisions With the July 2002 release, the monthly GDP by industry program has introduced the first stage of conversion to a Chain Fisher formula, by adopting annual chained Input-Output benchmarks in its calculation of real GDP for the period 1997 to 1999. However the data, from January 2000 onwards, are 1999 Laspeyres-based estimates. The monthly GDP results will now be expressed in chained 1997 dollars. This conversion will bring the monthly GDP by industry estimates more in line with the quarterly expenditure-based GDP data, chained quarterly. Survey redesigns and methodological changes due to NAICS conversion and other developments have resulted in larger than normal annual benchmarking revisions to certain industries. The definition of the Information and communication technologies (ICT) sector was modified to conform more closely to the international standard as developed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Specifically, libraries and the retailing of ICT commodities were removed from the aggregation, but due to data limitations we were unable to include the repair of ICT equipment in our aggregation. The estimates were reworked back to January 1997.
