The Pension Satellite Account basic framework in a condensed version is shown in a matrix form with five columns and four rows. Columns represent opening and closing wealth positions of the pension system along with inflows and outflows which highlight the key components of wealth change. The first column is the opening wealth position. Column two corresponds to inflows; that is, contributions and investment income. Column three corresponds to outflows; that is, withdrawals. Column four corresponds to revaluations and other volume changes. The last column is the closing wealth position.

Rows represent each of the three tiers of the Canadian pension system and the total of all pension plans. The first row represents social security plans. The second row is employer-sponsored plans. The third row is individual registered saving plans. The fourth row is a total of all pension plans.
