  • The homicide rate involving IndigenousNote 1 people was 10.84 per 100,000, more than 8 times the rate for non-Indigenous Canadians. Indigenous people therefore continue to be overrepresented among homicide victims.
  • Victims identified as racialized personsNote 2 continued to account for approximately one-third (29%) of all victims.
  • Over the period from 2019 to 2024, roughly one-third of those accused of homicide were already under some form of justice system supervision at the time of the offence.

Spousal and intimate partner violence

  • In 2024, nearly 1 in 6 (17%) homicide victims were killed by a spouse or intimate partnerNote 3
  • This represents 100 homicide victims, up from 72 in 2023
  • 81 women were victims of spousal or intimate partner homicide in 2024, up from 53 the previous year.
