These resources were created with you in mind:

Analytical studies

Statistics Canada is a world leader in research. Our Analytical studies and research papers cover a wide range of topics dedicated to helping Canadians know more about their social, commercial, financial and economic situation.

Learning Resources

Whether you are an elementary, high school, college or university student – or a teacher – a wealth of resources awaits you in the Learning Resources module. It offers numerous lesson plans and teaching aids for teachers as well as homework information and entertaining activities for students. Services for post-secondary students are also listed. A search engine helps locate relevant information quickly and easily.

E-STAT

E-STAT is Statistics Canada's interactive learning tool about society and the economy in Canada, available free online only to educational institutions. E-STAT offers an enormous warehouse of statistics that can be extracted and displayed as tables, charts and maps. Access is by school registration only; check if your school is registered.

Data Liberation Initiative (DLI)

Since 1996, the DLI has provided a cost effective method for improving access to data sources from Statistics Canada to Canadian post-secondary institutions. Prior to the start of the DLI program, Canadian universities and colleges had to purchase Statistics Canada data one file at a time. With the advent of the DLI, participating post-secondary institutions pay an annual subscription fee that allows their faculty and students unlimited access to numerous Statistics Canada public use microdata files, databases and geographic files. Access is by institution licensing only; check if your school is a DLI participant. It also allows members to have access to training and support that is crucial for them to better service their patrons.

Research Data Centres (RDC)

The Research Data Centres program is part of an initiative by Statistics Canada, the Social Science and Humanities Research Council and university consortia to help strengthen Canada's social research capacity and to support the policy research community.

RDCs provide researchers with access, in a secure university setting, to microdata from population and household surveys. The centres are staffed by Statistics Canada employees. They are operated under the provisions of the Statistics Act in accordance with all the confidentiality rules and are accessible only to researchers with approved projects who have been sworn in under the Statistics Act as 'deemed employees.' RDCs are located throughout the country, so researchers do not need to travel to Ottawa to access Statistics Canada microdata.

The research papers produced for the Research Data Centres program are catalogued by and located within the Statistics Canada Library. Check BiblioCat or contact the Statistics Canada Library when searching for one of the many research papers.
