  • From 2009 to 2010, the number of passenger-kilometres carried by train decreased 4.7% in Canada, whereas in the OECD it increased 0.4%.
  • The volume of goods transported by rail in Canada fell 20.3% nationally and 14.3% internationally from 2009 to 2010. In the OECD, it increased 8.2% nationally and 1.4% internationally.
  • World container traffic fell 26% by volume while air freight dropped 10% in 2009. In 2010, world container traffic increased 13% and air freight grew nearly 21%.
  • In 2009, Canada had 73 road fatalities per million people, down from 97 in 1998. The OECD average was 75 road fatalities per million people in 2009, down from 120 in 1998.
