  • Fertility rates were well below replacement rates in most OECD countries in 2009, averaging 1.74 births per woman. In Canada, the fertility rate was 1.67 births per woman in 2009, down from 2.33 in 1970.
  • In all OECD countries, fertility rates have declined for young women and increased at older ages. In 2010, the mean age of childbearing women in Canada was 29.7 years.
  • There were 105 boys born for every 100 girls born in 2010 in Canada.
