Figure 3 Getting news from television alone results in lower participation in non-voting political activities

This graph illustrates that using television as the sole source of news information is associated with lower levels of non-voting political participation by frequent consumers of the news who are 19 years and older. 67% of those who use television alone engage in no non-voting political activities, 20% engage in one political activity, 12% in two to three activities, and 2% in four to six. Turning to those who use other media besides television alone to gain their news information, 45% engage in non political activities, 25% in one political activity, 24% in two to three political activities, and 7% in four to six. These data are from the 2003 General Social Survey.
