    This article examines regional differences in the math and reading skills of immigrant children aged 15 based on data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). It also examines regional differences in high-school and university completion rates among young immigrants who came to Canada before the age of 15 using National Household Survey (NHS) data. Throughout the article, comparisons are made with the children of the Canadian-born (third- or higher-generation Canadians).

    In this Economic Insights article, the decline in the youth labour force participation rate from 2008 to 2014 is decomposed, in an accounting framework, into components attributable to changes in school enrolment and in students’ and non-students’ labour force participation. The data are analyzed by sex, province and immigrant status. Changes in the composition of youth not in the labour force by student status and type of education pursued are also examined, as are changes in the percentage of youth who are neither in the labour force nor enrolled in full-time studies. The analysis is based on Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey from 1976 to 2014.

    This study provides new information on the political participation of youth aged 15 to 24 years. It examines the likelihood of voting in the next federal election (as reported in 2013) and participation in the previous election, as well as participation in non-electoral political activities, such as signing petitions or participating in demonstrations or public meetings. The study also provides information on the degree of civic engagement of youth, which is often perceived as a key indicator of social capital.

    This article highlights national data on the number of newly diagnosed cases of childhood cancer (incidence) and the number of deaths attributed to cancer (mortality) in children under the age of 15. Incidence data are explored by age, sex and the five most commonly diagnosed groups of childhood cancer. Due to the low number of cancer cases, five years of data, between 2006 and 2010, were combined to report the most recent results.

    The data are from the first two cycles (2007 to 2009 and 2009 to 2011) of the Canadian Health Measures Survey, which collected biomonitoring indicators via spot blood and urine samples. Behavioural outcomes—hyperactivity/inattention, emotional symptoms, conduct problems, peer problems, and prosocial behaviour—were assessed with Goodman’s Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Geometric mean urinary Bisphenol A (BPA) concentration was examined overall and by demographic and socioeconomic correlates. Six multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to investigate associations between childhood BPA concentrations and risk status for each outcome.

How are the results ordered?

The Sort by feature provides three options:

  • By date – sorts results by product release date starting with the most recent.
  • By relevance is only needed or beneficial when you use the search box and submit a search query. Results are ordered by a combination of where the search term appears in the content, e.g., if it appears in the title, it likely means the product is more relevant to your search; how up to date or new the content in the product is; how popular the product is; and other factors.
  • By title – sorts results alphabetically.
