This infographic is based on responses to the questions: "How concerned are you about the risk of a weather-related emergency or natural disaster affecting your household?" and "In the past 12 months, have you [or has someone in your household] taken steps to prepare in the event of a weather-related emergency or natural disaster affecting your household?" which were included in wave 7 of the Canadian Social Survey collected from October to December 2022. Environmental issues are a priority for young people in Canada—and their actions often reflect this priority. For example, youth aged 15 to 30 make 5% of their total donations to environmental organizations (vs. 2% to 3% among older Canadians), and dedicate 7% of their volunteer hours to environmental organizations (vs. 3% to 6% among older Canadians). Youth tend to live in more walkable but less “green” neighbourhoods and use sustainable transportation to get to work more often than older adults (46% vs. 28%). This chapter provides an overview of how youth in Canada interact with and live in their environment. Data are taken from the 2016 Census of Population, the 2016 General Social Survey on Canadians at Work and Home, the 2018 General Social Survey on Giving, Volunteering and Participating, the 2019 Households and the Environment Survey, and other published reports.

Description: Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis (RSGA) of the Agriculture Division prepared a series of maps and statistics that show the progression of the 2009 Red River valley flood in Manitoba for the spring of 2009. Starting with an image acquired on March 31, the maps were produced from the analysis of Radarsat-2 satellite image data integrated with 2006 Census of Agriculture data and census geography boundary files. From this analysis, the total area of flooded agriculture land and the number of farmers affected were calculated. A comparison is made with the 1997 flood that occurred in the same region.
