The study further illustrates that high job reallocation causes significant movement of workers between firms and industries, and that this has important implications for training and knowledge flows in the economy.

Governments, criminal justice agencies and the general public have a vested interest in monitoring the nature and extent of these occurrences. Despite a growing concern among Canadians about violence, the homicide rate has gradually been declining since the mid 1970s.

Our objective is to obtain an accurate estimate of the degree of intergenerational income mobility in Canada. We use income tax information on about 400,000 father-son pairs, and find intergenerational earnings elasticities to be about 0.2. Earnings mobility tends to be slightly greater than income mobility, but non-parametric techniques uncover significant non-linearities in both of these relationships. Intergenerational earnings mobility is greater at the lower end of the income distribution than at the upper end, and displays an inverted V-shape elsewhere. Intergenerational income mobility follows roughly the same pattern, but is much lower at the very top of the income distribution.

Controlling for observable worker attributes, we find that computer use is associated with a wage premium of at most 14%. Following Dinardo and Pischke (1997), we examine the wage premium associated with other tools used on the job. While these authors find a significant wage premium for the use of pencils or for sitting down while working, we find a substantial and robust wage premium for the use of a fax machine. Using a variety of reasonable specifications of wage equations including both a computer use indicator and a fax use indicator, we consistently find a stronger effect for fax machines than for computers. Along with Dinardo and Pischke (1997), we argue that workers who use computers earn more than other employees not because of their computing skills per se, but rather because they have more other unobserved skills - innate or learned through school - than other employees.

Prior to the 2001 Census, the Geography Division manually calculated land area using a planimeter. The manual approach was necessary since the division did not have a national digital database to support an automated method. The manual land area calculation was a labour intensive process as well as very time consuming, expensive and very prone to error. With the anticipation of having a national digital base for the 2001 Census (to be called the National Geographic Base or NGB), the automated land area calculation becomes a simple GIS process.

The objectives of this paper are to show the effects of data aggregation and different map projections on automated land area calculation. The testing is a two- staged process; the first stage uses the 1996 Digital Cartographic Files (DCFs) and the second stage will use the NGB. Although the DCFs are not ideal for testing land area, this two-staged approach is necessary since the NGB will not be completed until Autumn 1998. This report presents results on the first stage using the 1996 DCFs.

The results reveal that the effects of data aggregation are minimal; thus land area can be stored at the census block level and then aggregated to higher level geographic entities without any serious ramifications for the 2001 Census. The results also indicate that an equal-area projection, specifically the Albers Equal-Area Conic projection, is more appropriate for calculating land area.

In 1996, personal expenditures amounted to 58.3% of Canada's nominal gross domestic product (GDP), up from 56.6% in 1986. Aggregate consumer spending patterns are affected by several factors. Consumer tastes can shift over time, as new commodities are introduced and others become outdated. As well, changes in the demographic, economic and social characteristics of consumers can affect consumer decisions, as can shifts in the relative prices, utilities and quality levels of different goods and services.

Yet, despite the important role that access to and use of oral health care services play in maintaining optimal oral health, substantial disparities remain in access to oral health care services across population groups in Canada. Using data from the 2022 Canadian Community Health Survey, this study examines the association of dental insurance with oral health care access and use in Canada while accounting for income and sociodemographic factors. It contributes to a baseline of oral health care disparities before the implementation of the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

This analysis explores these alternative treatments of owned accommodation in the Canadian context, examining their impact on the all-items Consumer Price Index. Additionally, it provides an explanation for the gap between perceived inflation and estimated inflation.
