    This report provides an overview of the definitions and competency frameworks of data literacy, as well as the assessment tools used to measure it. These are based on the existing literature and current practices around the world. Data literacy, or the ability to derive meaningful information from data, is a relatively new concept. However, it is gaining increasing recognition as a vital skillset in the information age. Existing approaches to measuring data literacy—from self-assessment tools to objective measures, and from individual to organizational assessments—are discussed in this report to inform the development of an assessment tool for data literacy in the Canadian public service.

This study uses data from the Survey of Financial Security to examine changes in homeownership rates and factors associated with homeownership, the proportion of families who had paid off the mortgage on their principal residence, and the amount of mortgage debt owed by families who had a mortgage. The study also provides information on the types of mortgage rates on the principal residence (fixed rate, variable rate or a combination of both).

    This paper seeks to describe the investigation that occurred during the certification of the 2016 Census results, and provide additional information related to the population whose responses changed over time. It includes sections related to: different factors that may have caused the drop in reported Jewish ethnic origins; effects of changes to the list of ethnic origin examples over time; ethnic origin responses for those who dropped "Jewish" as a response in 2016; and sociodemographic characteristics of the population who changed their responses.

    Statistics Canada developed a new Physical Activity for Youth Questionnaire (PAYQ) to address the limitations of previous self-reporting and objective measurement. PAYQ was subsequently implemented in both the Canadian Health Measures Survey (2014-2015) and the Canadian Community Health Survey (2015-2016). Using those surveys, this study compares accelerometer-measured and self-reported physical activity from the new PAYQ among Canadian youth.
