Using data from The Canadian Health Survey on Seniors – 2019/2020, this study examined the prevalence and factors associated with shingles and pneumococcal vaccination among individuals aged 65 and older living in the community.

It includes data on a range of monthly indicators - real GDP, consumer prices, the unemployment rate, merchandise exports and imports, retail sales, hours worked and manufacturing sales -- as well as monthly data on aircraft movements, railway carloadings, and travel between Canada and other countries.

Estimates are presented from January 2019 to the current reference month for each data series. The information will be updated continuously as new data becomes available, and additional series may be added to the dashboard as circumstances warrant.

To support the analysis of time series movements in the data, the dashboard reports changes in each series on both a month-over-month and year-over-year basis. For most of the variables reported, information on cumulative changes in the data both prior and subsequent to the end of 2019 is also presented by indexing the level estimates to December 2019, as depicted in the accompanying charts.

Description: The validity of survival estimates from cancer registry data depends, in part, on the identification of the deaths of deceased cancer patients. People whose deaths are missed seemingly live on forever and are informally referred to as “immortals”, and their presence in registry data can result in inflated survival estimates. This study assesses the issue of immortals in the Canadian Cancer Registry (CCR) using a recently proposed method that compares the survival of long-term survivors of cancers for which “statistical” cure has been reported with that of similar people from the general population.

The shift by Canadians to a more physically distanced life resulted in a dramatic reduction in the transmission of COVID-19. However, there are concerns that health behaviours, including physical activity, have consequently changed in ways that will result in an unintended increase in the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes and cancer. This study looks at how many Canadians could develop cardiovascular disease over the next three years because of reduced levels of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Colorectal cancer screening, along with other health care services, was suspended in Canada in the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic response. This pause was deemed necessary to allow health care facilities to establish appropriate infection-control measures to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks and to reserve health system capacity for COVID-19 patients. The current article projects the impact of a three-month suspension of screening for colorectal cancer using a fecal test for average-risk individuals, and compares strategies to minimize the harm from screening interruptions. The projections come from OncoSim, a cancer microsimulation model co-developed by Statistics Canada and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.

This study aims to measure cancer incidence and mortality rates of Registered First Nations people in Ontario and to look at trends over time, particularly in cancer rates that are targeted by screening programs (cervical, breast, colorectal) or public health interventions (smoking). The federal Indian Register, the Ontario Cancer Registry and the Registered Persons Database were linked to develop a cohort of First Nations people diagnosed with cancer in Ontario.
