Description: The environmental perspective for the Housing Economic Account provides users detailed information on emissions related to residential construction and clean technology involved. The table breaks down greenhouse gas emissions, greenhouse gas emissions per value added, and clean technology input for residential construction for Canada and provinces.

Description: Using data from the Housing Economic Account, this data visualization tool analyzes the flows and stock of residential housing in value, as well as the stock of housing in units. Residential housing flows and stock can be visualized in current and real dollars, by assets (new construction, renovation and transfer cost) and by provinces and territories. In addition, housing flows and stocks can be viewed by sector of activity and type of housing, and the economic impact analysis and social transfers in kind from the public sector are reported.

Description: These indexes are calculated to establish and adjust the Post Living Allowance (PLA) paid to Canadian government employees serving outside of Canada. They are comparative measurements that numerically express the difference between the retail prices of a representative basket of goods and services at a foreign location with prices for a similar basket of goods and services in Ottawa.

Three separate reports are provided to reflect the specific terms and conditions of service for these personnel. A description of each report is provided below.

Foreign Service Directives Post Indexes

These indexes are calculated for personnel serving under the terms and conditions of the Foreign Service Directives (FSDs). They reflect circumstances for personnel who may have access to certain goods and services that are free of duties or taxes or to sources of supply that are not available to the general public. Where employees do not have (either directly or indirectly) duty-free purchasing privileges, departmental administrators must consult with Statistics Canada to calculate an additional index to reflect the specific circumstances in effect at that post.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) Post Indexes (TAH)

These indexes are calculated for cooperants and advisors serving under the Technical Assistance Handbook (TAH), whose terms and conditions are governed by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Canadian Forces Post Indexes

These indexes are calculated for Canadian Forces members serving under either the terms and conditions of the Military Foreign Service Instructions (MFSIs) or the Foreign Service Directives (FSDs). They reflect circumstances for personnel who may have access to sources of supply that are not available to the general public. These personnel also may have access to certain goods and services that are free of duties or taxes or may be provided with supplies or allowances by the Department of National Defence or the United Nations. The indexes in this listing are not appropriate for use by non-military personnel.

Description: This table displays interprovincial trade indices, and interprovincial trade as a share of total trade. Note that the base year for all indices is 1981, except for Northwest Territories and Nunavut (which is 1999). Interprovincial trade as a share of total trade is calculated by determining the ratio of total interprovincial trade to the total provincial trade.

Description: The quarterly satellite account of non-profit institutions and volunteering provides a snapshot of the non-profit sector with key statistics of gross domestic product, income, outlays and employment. The satellite account is an extension of the contributions to the overall gross domestic product, with data categorized by non-profit institutions serving businesses, households and governments. The satellite account also provides a breakdown of current dollar non-profit institutions’ gross domestic product and employment for individual activities, such as health care, education and research, social services, and other activities. This interactive tool facilitates easy access to the numerous data sets in this satellite account. The tool highlights the latest results with a time-series overview of non-profit institutions by sector and activity.

The HRM provides detailed information on employment related to tourism for the years 1997 to 2002. Information on wages and salaries, number of jobs and hours worked by occupation are included. Occupational data is further disaggregated by age, gender and immigration status. Seasonal patterns within tourism employment are also analyzed. This study provides a resource for training and planning for tourism.

Corporations have been posting record profits over much of the last decade. Meanwhile, business fixed capital investment has been relatively sluggish in recent years. This situation has led to a significant shift in the corporate sectors' net lending/borrowing position - from one of a chronic deficit position to one of sustained surplus. After having run deficits for almost 30 years, corporations have emerged with significant surplus positions in the last decade. This has placed the corporate sector in a new role - that of increasingly supplying funds to the rest of the economy.

This note looks at this development from a few angles, focusing on non-financial corporations. It identifies the underlying causes for, and the major effects of, the development of an expanding corporate surplus position. In short, non-financial corporations have taken advantage of record profits, historically low interest rates and relatively buoyant stock markets to substantially re-structure their balance sheets. It has reached the point where corporate finances, in aggregate, are the healthiest they have been in the last thirty years.

Description: With the 2015 comprehensive revision, the Canadian System of Macroeconomic Accounts (CSMA) has introduced a major presentational change to the national and the provincial and territorial input-output tables. The previous CSMA input-output presentation differed from the international standard and the practice found in most national statistical organizations. The CSMA has aligned its presentation with the international standard and replaces the presentation found in catalogues 15F0041X and 15F0042X, as well as 15F0002X.

The mandate of the Analytical Studies Branch (ASB) is to provide high-quality, relevant and timely information on economic, health and social issues that are important to Canadians. The branch strategically makes use of expert knowledge and a large range of statistical sources to describe, draw inferences from, and make objective and scientifically supported deductions about the evolving nature of the Canadian economy and society. Research questions are addressed by applying leading-edge methods, including microsimulation and predictive analytics using a range of linked and integrated administrative and survey data. In supporting greater access to data, ASB linked data are made available to external researchers and policy makers to support evidence-based decision making. Research results are disseminated by the branch using a range of mediums (i.e., research papers, studies, infographics, videos, and blogs) to meet user needs. The input-output multipliers are derived from the supply and use tables. They are used to assess the effects on the economy of an exogenous change in final demand for the output of a given industry. They provide a measure of the interdependence between an industry and the rest of the economy.

The national and provincial multipliers show the direct, indirect, and induced effects on gross output, the detailed components of GDP, jobs, and imports. Like the supply and use tables, the multipliers are presented at four levels of aggregation: Detail level (236 industries), Link-1997 level (187 industries), Link-1961 level (111 industries) and Summary level (35 industries).

Users of macroeconomic statistics require long time series in order to understand economic cycles, forecast and conduct economic modeling. In general the longer the time series the better users are able to understand the economy. Statistics Canada has been producing macroeconomic account statistics since the 1930s. Over the last 80 plus years these statistics have evolved due to the changing nature of the economy, the development of international macroeconomic accounting standards and the development of new statistical methods and processes.
