- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202300700001Description: Prevalence of loneliness among Canadians has become an important concern because of its wider consequences on health and well-being. However, there are limited Canadian studies about loneliness disaggregated by gender and across various subgroups of older Canadians, particularly immigrant subgroups. This study estimates the prevalence of loneliness among older Canadians in a nationally representative sample of 38,941 Canadians aged 65 and older, with particular focus on evaluating differences in loneliness across immigrant subgroups.Release date: 2023-07-19
- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202300700002Description: Household air conditioning is one of the most effective approaches for reducing the health impacts of heat exposure; however, few studies have measured the prevalence of household air conditioning in Canada. This study explores the prevalence of household air conditioning in Canada using two newly linked surveys: the 2017 Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) and the 2017 Households and the Environment Survey (HES). It is the first to quantify air conditioning prevalence in Canada at the person-level.Release date: 2023-07-19
- Articles and reports: 36-28-0001202300600003Description: Sense of belonging to Canada is a well-documented measure of immigrants’ social integration. - 66. Using the Severity of Dependence Scale to examine cannabis consumers with impaired control in CanadaArticles and reports: 82-003-X202300600001Description: The 2018 Cannabis Act legalizing the production, sale, and use of cannabis for non-medical purposes renewed interest in the importance of ongoing and more detailed monitoring of cannabis consumption and consequences. Some cannabis users will experience impaired control over their use of cannabis, putting them at risk for cannabis use disorder (sometimes called addiction) and other harms. Using the Severity of Dependence Scale in the annual Canadian Community Health Survey, this study examines cannabis consumers with and without impaired control.Release date: 2023-06-21
- Articles and reports: 82-003-X202300600002Description: Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are a major public health concern impacting the lives of many Canadians. Among all TBIs, concussions are the most common. However, to date, the incidence of concussions among the Canadian population has remained unknown. To address this data surveillance gap, this study presents national estimates on the percentage of Canadians aged 12 years or older (excluding those living in the territories) who sustained one or more concussions in 2019.Release date: 2023-06-21

This document also provides health professionals, advocacy groups, and individual Canadians with an overview of how living with certain musculoskeletal conditions affects day-to-day functioning.
Release date: 2006-04-04 - Surveys and statistical programs – Documentation: 84-548-XDescription:
This report describes the design, methodology, and results of the first study undertaken by Statistics Canada to measure the impact on Canadian cause of death trends of a new revision of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
Using 1999 Canadian mortality data, Statistics Canada carried out a comparability, or "bridge-coding", study by dual-coding deaths to both the Ninth and Tenth Revisions of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9 and ICD-10). The preliminary results of this exercise were used to generate comparability ratios; these ratios measure the net effect of the new revision, with ratios above 1.00 indicating a net increase in deaths classified to a cause of death, and ratios below 1.00 indicating a net decrease.
The comparability ratios derived from dual-coding medical certificates of cause of death presented in this report estimate the size and direction of the disruption to cause of death trends due to the implementation of ICD-10. Researchers and analysts using Canadian mortality data should use these summary measures to calculate comparability-modified death counts and mortality rates to bridge the gap between ICD-9 and ICD-10.
