Description: Oral health is a crucial component of overall health, influencing both physical and mental well-being. Yet, despite the important role that access to and use of oral health care services play in maintaining optimal oral health, substantial disparities remain in access to oral health care services across population groups in Canada. Using data from the 2022 Canadian Community Health Survey, this study examines the association of dental insurance with oral health care access and use in Canada while accounting for income and sociodemographic factors. It contributes to a baseline of oral health care disparities before the implementation of the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Additionally, health behaviours established in childhood extend into adulthood and can influence oral health outcomes later in life. Using data from the 2019 Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth, this study investigates the association between dental insurance, income, and dental care access for Canadian children and youth aged 1 to 17 years. Description: Cybervictimization has emerged as a potentially serious form of victimization and has been associated with negative mental health outcomes, including depression, anxiety, disordered eating, and suicidality. However, very little research has examined the prevalence and correlates of cybervictimization among diverse subpopulations of youth. Using data from the 2019 Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth, this study describes the proportion of Canadian adolescents who have experienced cybervictimization and how this proportion may differ among subpopulations of Canadian adolescents (based on gender identity, ethnicity, and sexual orientation). This study also examines how these sociodemographic predictors are associated with the experience of cybervictimization and associations between cybervictimization and adolescent mental health and whether these associations differ among subpopulations.

The lifetime probabilities of developing cancer and dying from cancer are useful summary statistics that describe the impact of cancer within a population. This study aims to present detailed lifetime probabilities of developing cancer and dying from cancer by sex and cancer type, and to describe changes in these lifetime probabilities over time among the Canadian population.

Description: Labour shortages in health care professions have become a pressing issue across many Canadian jurisdictions and were especially exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To help address these shortages, federal, provincial and territorial governments have implemented measures to facilitate the entry of skilled immigrants with health care qualifications into their respective professions, among other government actions to strengthen the health workforce. However, comprehensive data on the numbers, sociodemographic characteristics and labour market outcomes of internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) remain scarce. This article provides estimates of the number of IEHPs in Canada based on 2021 Census data.

Description: Accessibility of food retail in communities may play a role in shaping the food choices of local residents. Canadian youth are frequent patrons of fast-food and other restaurant types, such as full-service restaurants and cafés. Studies linking local exposure to various restaurant types with diet-related behaviours and health outcomes have, to date, revealed mixed results. The current study uses a recently developed high-quality pan-Canadian dataset of food retail measures and a large population-based sample of Canadian children and youth to examine links between the local restaurant environment and the frequency of eating food from restaurants and intake of sugary drinks.
