In recent decades, women’s educational attainment has increased significantly in Canada. In 2016, 40.7% of young women aged 25 to 34 reported having a bachelor's degree or higher, up from 32.8% in 2006. By comparison, 29.1% of young men aged 25 to 34 reported having a bachelor's degree or higher, up from 24.8% in 2006. This short study discusses gender-based differences in desired level of educational attainment for students, as well as obstacles encountered in school.
This service provides custom tabulations from the General Survey (GSS). As with the first GSS cycle conducted in 1985, the survey is carried out each year and has subject matter that repeats every 5 years. GSS cycles will collect information on social characteristics of the population including social engagement, retirement, family, time use and victimization.
This article examines various facets of travelling between home and work. First it provides information about commuting times and how frequently workers are caught in traffic. Second, it looks at workers' perceptions of the time they spend commuting as well as car users' perceptions of public transit. Finally a connection is drawn between the characteristics of commuting to work (commuting time, recurrence of traffic congestion, etc.) and selected subjective measures of quality of life, including stress levels and satisfaction with work-life balance.
Young adults with one or two parents who are university-educated are much more likely to have a degree themselves than those whose parents are less well-educated. This article determines whether intergenerational mobility in university education is increasing. Specifically, whether people whose parents did not complete university are themselves more likely to have finished university than nearly 25 years ago is examined, as is whether the gap between them and people whose parents completed university has narrowed over time.
The strong growth of telework in the 1990s seems to have stalled since the turn of the century. Despite significant improvements in the infrastructure, the fall-off in telework popularity has been pervasive.
This article examines triggers of workplace stress among employed Canadians.
