Up until 1985, GERD included R&D expenditures in the Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSE) only. Beginning in 1985, Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) activities are also included in GERD. An additional series of tables showing R&D expenditures at the national level in either science from 1963 to 1993, or at the provincial level from 1979 to 1993, may be obtained from the Science and Technology Surveys Section, Science, Innovation and Electronic Information Division.
