    Description:

    Statistics Canada developed a new Physical Activity for Youth Questionnaire (PAYQ) to address the limitations of previous self-reporting and objective measurement. PAYQ was subsequently implemented in both the Canadian Health Measures Survey (2014-2015) and the Canadian Community Health Survey (2015-2016). Using those surveys, this study compares accelerometer-measured and self-reported physical activity from the new PAYQ among Canadian youth.

    This weekly interactive information package produces timely, quantitative and objective information on crop and pasture conditions at the provincial/state, census agricultural region / county, census division, census consolidated subdivision and township levels. It includes colour images and maps, graphs and tables from the Crop Condition Assessment Application (CCAP).

    Interactive and available free via the Internet, the CCAP uses low-resolution, digital satellite data during the growing season to monitor the changing vegetation conditions over the whole agriculture area of Canada and the northern half of the United States.

    This interactive dashboard provides access to current and historical Consumer Price Index (CPI) data in a dynamic and customizable format. Key indicators such as the 12-month and 1-month inflation rates and price trends are presented in interactive charts, allowing users to compare and analyze price changes of all the goods and services in the CPI basket over time as well as across geography (national, provincial and territorial levels).

    Other CPI indicators available in this tool include the Bank of Canada’s core measures of inflation, seasonally adjusted inflation rates, and CPI basket weights based on household consumer expenditures from the Survey of Household Spending.

    This web-based application is updated monthly, as soon as the data for the latest reference month is released in The Daily.

New articles are published electronically each month.

    Health Reports had an impact factor of 2.571 for 2017 and a five-year impact factor of 3.126. All articles are indexed in PubMed. Our online catalogue is free and receives more than 500,000 visits per year. External submissions are welcome.

    This Economic Insights article presents estimates of the nominal output of foreign-owned multinationals operating in different sectors of Canada’s economy. It examines changes in the value added of foreign majority-owned affiliates, highlighting contributions by country of control. Estimates are examined separately for affiliates operating in resource, manufacturing and service industries. Developed by the Canadian Economic Accounts, the new data summarized in this article are part of a series of projects designed to provide more detailed information on the global dimensions of Canada’s economy. Annual estimates of the value added of foreign-owned affiliates are currently available from 2010 to 2016.

    This topic presents data on the Aboriginal peoples of Canada and their demographic characteristics.     The Canadian Index of Multiple Deprivation (CIMD) is an area-based index which used 2016 Census of Population microdata to measure four key dimensions of deprivation at the dissemination area (DA)-level: residential instability, economic dependency, situational vulnerability and ethno-cultural composition.

    The CIMD allows for an understanding of inequalities in various measures of health and social well-being. While it is a geographically-based index of deprivation and marginalization, it can also be used as a proxy for an individual. The CIMD has the potential to be widely used by researchers on a variety of topics related to socio-economic research. Other uses for the index may include: policy planning and evaluation, or resource allocation.

    Description:

    The Standard Classification of Countries and Areas of Interest (SCCAI) has been developed to increase coherence of the list of countries used within Statistics Canada and to be more consistent with Government of Canada norms. This list of countries and areas includes those for which statistical data are compiled and applies to both economic and social statistics.

    The variant Countries and Areas of Interest for Social Statistics - SCCAI was developed to create groupings of countries to enable the production of integrated statistics when publishing social statistics data. These groupings are based on those used historically for Statistics Canada's Census of Population place of birth variable. The variant has three levels: geographical macro-regions, geographical sub-regions, and countries or areas of interest.
