This article provides a profile of the Canadian manufacturing industry and the investments made in energy-related processes and technologies in 2006. These investments either reduced the amount of energy used for a process, or lowered the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants produced through the production and use of energy.
Release date: 2009-12-09 - 33. Searching for the silver bullet: Are EIA's current tools adequate for designing and testing EIA business surveys? ArchivedArticles and reports: 11-522-X200800010947Description:
This paper addresses the efforts of the U.S. Energy Information Administration to design, test and implement new and substantially redesigned surveys. The need to change EIA's surveys has become increasingly important, as U.S. energy industries have moved from highly regulated to deregulated business. This has substantially affected both their ability and willingness to report data. The paper focuses on how EIA has deployed current tools for designing and testing surveys and the reasons that these methods have not always yielded the desired results. It suggests some new tools and methods that we would like to try to improve the quality of our data.
Release date: 2009-12-03 - Articles and reports: 16-002-X200800410749Geography: CanadaDescription:
Households contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Canada both directly and indirectly. Direct emissions occur through the use of motor fuel and residential fuel, while indirect emissions result from the production of goods and services purchased by households. This article examines households' direct and indirect GHG emissions from 1990 to 2004.

Rather than being 'hewers of wood and drawers of water', it is more accurate to say 'conveyors of crude and moilers of metals'.
Release date: 2007-10-11 - 37. A demand perspective on greenhouse gas emissions ArchivedArticles and reports: 16-002-X200700210335Geography: CanadaDescription:
This article provides an analysis of greenhouse gas emissions from a demand perspective. The analysis is based on the greenhouse gas emissions accounts and input-output accounts produced at Statistics Canada. It shows that domestic requirements for goods and services led to 54% of Canadian industrial emissions, while production to satisfy exports accounted for the remaining 46%. Between 1990 and 2002, emissions associated with domestic demand grew slowly at 0.4% while those associated with the production of goods for export grew by 50%.
