    Description:

The 2001 Participation and Activity Limitation Survey (PALS) is a post-censal survey of adults and children whose everyday activities are limited because of a condition or health problem. A sample of those persons who answered 'Yes' to the 2001 Census disability filter questions were included in the PALS survey population. Approximately 35, 000 adults (aged 15 and over) and 8,000 children (aged 0 to 14) living in private or collective households in the 10 provinces were selected to participate in the survey. Persons living in institutions, on Indian reserves, and in the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut were excluded from the survey. The data were collected after the 2001 Census, in the fall of 2001.

These tables contain data on the educational attainment, labour force activity and income of adults with and without disabilities.

  • Articles and reports: 11F0019M2003209
    Geography: Canada
    Description:

This paper investigates annual working hours in the United States and Canada over the period 1979 to 2000. The study finds that a working hours gap opened in the 1980s and expanded substantially in the 1990s. It investigates the possibility that labour supply differences, specifically (1) incentives resulting from wage inequality, or (2) differences in the employment engagement of women, youth or older men, explain this working hours gap. The study finds that the stylized facts do not lead one to a supply side explanation. In fact, the sluggish economic growth in Canada relative to the U.S. (reflected in the unemployment rate) during much of the 1990s provides the best explanation for the increase in the hours gap, suggesting that explanations for the divergence in hours worked between the U.S. and Canada should focus on the demand side of the labour market.

Description: Oral health is a crucial component of overall health, influencing both physical and mental well-being. Using data from the 2022 Canadian Community Health Survey, this study examines the association of dental insurance with oral health care access and use in Canada while accounting for income and sociodemographic factors. It contributes to a baseline of oral health care disparities before the implementation of the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

  • Surveys and statistical programs – Documentation: 62F0072G
Description: The primary source of data used in post index construction are periodic retail-price and cost-of-living surveys conducted at foreign locations by the foreign service personnel stationed there. Statistics Canada analyses this survey data. In addition to a variety of price information gathered from retail outlets patronized by Canadian personnel at the post, data are also obtained regarding their spending patterns, along with information on the availability of any special local purchasing facilities, and the extent to which staff make direct importation of consumer goods from other countries. The general aim is for full-scale surveys to be carried out at about three-year intervals. However, specific studies may be undertaken more or less frequently than this, depending on the volatility of retail price conditions in each particular country, the instability of exchange rates and the extent to which close monitoring of changes in the local retail price situation being faced by Canadian personnel can be achieved through reference to other statistical indicators.
