The Postal CodeOM Conversion File (PCCF) links six-character postal codesOM to standard geographic areas such as dissemination areas, census tracts, and census subdivisions. By linking postal codesOM to standard geographic areas, the file facilitates the extraction and subsequent aggregation of data for selected geographic areas. The PCCF also associates each postal codeOM with a longitude and latitude coordinate to support mapping applications.

This paper describes a method of imputing missing postal codes in a longitudinal database. The 1991 Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort (CanCHEC), which contains information on individuals from the 1991 Census long-form questionnaire linked with T1 tax return files for the 1984-to-2011 period, is used to illustrate and validate the method. The cohort contains up to 28 consecutive fields for postal code of residence, but because of frequent gaps in postal code history, missing postal codes must be imputed. To validate the imputation method, two experiments were devised where 5% and 10% of all postal codes from a subset with full history were randomly removed and imputed.
Release date: 2017-03-13 - Geographic files and documentation: 82F0086XDescription:
The Postal CodeOM Conversion File Plus (PCCF+) is a SAS© control program and set of associated datasets derived from the Postal CodeOM Conversion File (PCCF), a Postal CodeOM population weight file, the Geographic Attribute File, Health Region boundary files, and other supplementary data. PCCF+ automatically assigns a range of Statistics Canada’s standard geographic areas and other geographic identifiers based on Postal CodesOM. The PCCF+ differs from the PCCF in that it uses population-weighted random allocation for Postal CodesOM that link to more than one geographic area.
Release date: 2017-03-06 - 17C0006Description: Annual information is available on Canadian taxfilers who contributed to a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) during the tax year. Data include the total number of taxfilers reporting RRSP contributions, their average age, their median employment income, the total and median contributions and the percentage of contributors or contributions by age group, income group and sex.
Data for some geographic areas are available starting in 1990. The latest data (2022) can be requested for selected levels of postal and census geographies. The statistics are derived from a preliminary version of the annual taxfile provided by the Canada Revenue Agency.

- Table: 93F0051XDescription:
These tables provide population and dwelling counts established by the 2001 Census of Canada. The following levels of geography are covered: Canada, provinces, territories, and other geographic areas including census subdivisions (municipalities), census metropolitan areas and census agglomerations.
For selected geographies, the tables provide percentage change in the population counts between 1996 and 2001. Data are also provided for land area and population density. Various tables allow the data in a column to be sorted in descending or ascending order. Geographic boundaries are those in effect on January 1, 2001.
An interactive reference-mapping tool, called GeoSearch, is available on the Statistics Canada website for identifying places and geographic units presented in these tables.

Release date: 2017-03-13 - 4. How Postal Codes Map to Geographic Areas ArchivedArticles and reports: 92F0138M2007001Description:
Statistics Canada creates files that provide the link between postal codes and the geographic areas by which it disseminates statistical data. By linking postal codes to the Statistics Canada geographic areas, Statistics Canada facilitates the extraction and subsequent aggregation of data for selected geographic areas from files available to users. Users can then take data from Statistics Canada for their areas and tabulate this with other data for these same areas to create a combined statistical profile for these areas.
An issue has been the methodology used by Statistics Canada to establish the linkage of postal codes to geographic areas. In order to address this issue, Statistics Canada decided to create a conceptual framework on which to base the rules for linking postal codes and Statistics Canada's geographic areas. This working paper presents the conceptual framework and the geocoding rules. The methodology described in this paper will be the basis for linking postal codes to the 2006 Census geographic areas. This paper is presented for feedback from users of Statistics Canada's postal codes related products.

Release date: 2002-11-28 - 14. 2001 Census Consultation Geography Report ArchivedNotices and consultations: 92-126-SDescription:
This report highlights the results of the geography portion of the 2001 Census consultation process. At the June 1998 federal-provincial conference session on the 2001 Census, geography was described as the "cornerstone" of the census. Based on the submissions received in the past year, many users feel the same way. It is the standard geographic areas that determine the framework in which the data will be released. It is the users, through the consultation process, who influence the changes to the standard geographic areas that are recommended for each census.
