In contrast to most violent crimes, police-reported incidents of forcible confinement have been steadily rising in Canada since the late 1980s. This article examines the incidence and nature of forcible confinement in Canada and discusses the long and short-term trends in this offence. It also examines court outcomes for adult cases involving this offence.
