    Description:

The Fertilizer Shipments Survey is a mandatory Statistics Canada survey conducted by Agriculture Division on behalf of the Canadian Fertilizer Institute and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, starting in 2008.

The information from this survey is essential to AAFC to support Canada's international reporting obligations of inventory of Greenhouse Gas emissions governed by the terms of the UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol agreements.

The survey produces statistics on shipments of fertilizer in Canada by manufacturers, wholesale distributors and retail distributors. This survey is a continuation of a survey that was conducted by the Canadian Fertilizer Institute, which covers all major Canadian manufacturers, wholesale distributors and retail distributors.

Aggregate data will be used by analysts to determine the province of destination for fertilizer products manufactured in Canada or imported into Canada, by product type and by nutrient content. Tables will also be provided for fertilizer production at the Canada level and for market inventories for East and West.

The study focuses on sales pattern for commodities sold by retailers in Canada. Canadians spent more of their retail dollar on frequently purchased goods such as food and beverages and automotive fuels, oils and additives in 2008 and less on big ticket items such as new vehicles. The only commodity group to decline in 2008 was motor vehicles, parts and services which made up one-fifth of total spending. • Table: 15-003-X
    Description:

The Canadian Productivity Accounts: Data is an electronic publication that contains a series of tables on productivity growth and related variables for the business sector and its 51 major sub-sectors based on the North American Industry Classification System. These tables allow users to have a broader perspective on Canadian economic performance. They complement the information available on CANSIM which offers more detail, particularly at the industry level.

Canadian Productivity Accounts (CPA) are responsible for producing, analyzing and disseminating Statistics Canada's official data on productivity and for producing and integrating data on employment, hours worked and capital services consistent with the Canadian System of National Accounts. To this end, the CPA comprise three programs. The quarterly program provides current estimates on labour productivity and labour costs at the aggregate level for 15 industry groups. The annual national program provides yearly estimates on labour productivity, multifactor productivity and several indicators of sources of growth and competitiveness as they apply to the major sectors of the economy and to the industry level. Lastly, the annual provincial program, as an integral part of the Provincial Economic Accounts, provides estimates on employment, hours worked, labour productivity and labour costs at the industry level for each province and territory.

The Canadian Productivity Accounts: Data covers four series of statistical tables:

Table 1: Output, labour compensation, capital cost and cost of intermediate inputs in current dollars

Table 2: Productivity and related measures

Table 3: Productivity and related measures for the business sector, Canada and United States

Table 4: Productivity and related measures for the manufacturing sector, Canada and United States

Productivity measures the efficiency with which inputs (labour and capital in particular) are utilized in production. Productivity measures can be applied to a single input, such as labour productivity (output per hour worked), as well as to multifactor productivity (output per unit of combined labour and capital inputs). Statistics Canada produces these two main measures of productivity, but other productivity ratios can also be measured (e.g., output per unit of capital services).

  • Thematic map: 16F0021X
    Description:

In early 1998, 3 successive storm fronts dropped as much as 110 millimeters of freezing rain through parts of Eastern Canada. This ice storm had a notable impact on the hundreds of thousands of people who suffered electricity outages which, in some cases, lasted longer than one month. But other effects were also felt and continue to be: human lives were lost, livestock perished, ecosystems were damaged, economies were disrupted, emergency response systems were strained beyond capacity. In short, Ice Storm 98 was an event that will not soon be forgotten.

This Statistics Canada publication gathers a series of six annotated maps and tables illustrating some of the impact the meteorological event had as it stormed through the St. Lawrence River Valley: population, employment, retail sales, vegetation cover, dairy cows and sugar maple taps are illustrated and briefly discussed.
