Description: The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is designed to contribute to a more equitable distribution of new immigrants across Canada. A related objective is the retention and integration of provincial nominees in the nominating province or territory. This article is the second in a series that examines the characteristics and labour market outcomes of PNP immigrants and examines the retention of PNP immigrants at both the national and provincial or territorial levels. The analysis uses data from the Immigrant Landing File and tax records, along with three indicators of retention, to measure the propensity of a province or territory to retain immigrants.

The new data provides information on the location of these of owners, their demographic characteristics, as well as the property types they own.

New data from the Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) provide more information about residential property owners in Ontario and British Columbia, and new information about owners in Nova Scotia, for 2018. Although preliminary CHSP data for owners in Ontario and British Columbia were published in June 2018, these new data complement the previous release by including owners in Nova Scotia, as well as non-individual owners (businesses, governments, etc.) and non-resident owners (owners who do not live primarily in Canada). The new data also provide a demographic profile of individual resident owners and information about owner-occupied properties. This infographic presents the new data highlighting certain characteristics of property owners, including the owner occupancy rates of selected residential properties.

This annual Juristat presents 2017 homicide data. Changes in the rates of homicide in Canada over time are examined as well as the characteristics of homicides committed in 2017. It presents information on the age and sex of homicide victims, the methods used to commit homicides (including the use of firearms), whether the homicide was determined to be gang-related, the relationship of the accused to the victim as well as other characteristics of the accused. In addition, information is presented on homicide victims and accused who were identified as Aboriginal.

During the 1990s and 2000s, changes in immigration selection policies significantly altered the characteristics of new immigrants to Canada across a number of dimensions, including educational attainment at landing, immigration class, source region, pre-landing Canadian work experience and geographic distribution. These changes were designed primarily to improve immigrant economic outcomes at landing. This paper examines whether immigrant entry earnings improved as a result of these changes in immigration selection and, if so, which characteristics contributed most to the improvement.

This analytical study uses Canadian Vehicle Survey data for 2000 to explain road use characteristics of young and aging drivers on a national basis. The analysis examines differences between two age groups - those aged 24 and under and those aged 55 and over - with the remainder of the population, those aged 25 to 54.
The focus of the study is on when and why drivers choose to make road trips, and how the driving population compares with the population as a whole. Driver characteristics were compared with Canadian motor vehicle traffic collision statistics published by Transport Canada (1999) as a means of putting driving exposure into perspective.

During the 1990s and 2000s, changes in immigration selection policies significantly altered the characteristics of new immigrants to Canada across a number of dimensions, including educational attainment at landing, immigration class, source region, pre-landing Canadian work experience and geographic distribution. These changes were designed primarily to improve immigrant economic outcomes at landing. This paper examines whether immigrant entry earnings improved as a result of these changes in immigration selection and, if so, which characteristics contributed most to the improvement.

This analytical study uses Canadian Vehicle Survey data for 2000 to explain road use characteristics of young and aging drivers on a national basis. The analysis examines differences between two age groups - those aged 24 and under and those aged 55 and over - with the remainder of the population, those aged 25 to 54.
The focus of the study is on when and why drivers choose to make road trips, and how the driving population compares with the population as a whole. Driver characteristics were compared with Canadian motor vehicle traffic collision statistics published by Transport Canada (1999) as a means of putting driving exposure into perspective.
