This Juristat examines the number and types of cases completed in adult criminal courts on an annual basis. Characteristics of the accused, case decisions, types of sentences imposed and case completion times are also explored. Data are presented at both the national and provincial/territorial levels.

Data are from the 1991-to-2006 Canadian Census Mortality and Cancer Follow-up Study. A 15% sample of 1991 Census respondents aged 25 or older was linked to 16 years of mortality data. This study examines avoidable mortality among First Nations and non-Aboriginal people aged 25 to 74.

The Longitudinal and International Study of Adults (LISA) has the direct measures of skills from the Program for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) because the two surveys had coordinated collection. The direct measures of skills cover three domains: literacy, numeracy, and problem solving in technology-rich environments. The skills measures are reflected in sets of 10 plausible values (PVs) that were created using a multiple imputation methodology. This paper demonstrates the proper use of the PVs. It also demonstrates that reliable estimates of skills can be produced using LISA and the results are similar to what would be obtained from the PIAAC data.

The 2012 APS represents the fourth cycle of the survey and focuses on issues of education, employment and health. The 2012 APS public use microdata file (PUMF) package has been designed to enable users to access and manipulate survey microdata at the national level. The package includes a microdata file; SAS, SPSS and Stata syntax; and a users’ guide. The users’ guide provides general information on the survey as well as guidelines for releasing estimates calculated using the PUMF.
