This product presents historical farm and operator data for selected variables from past censuses. These variables include size of farm, total farm area, gross farm receipts, farm capital, and characteristics of farm operators such as age and sex of farm operators, residency on or off of the farm, and work on and off the farm.

In this paper, we examine the off-farm labour decisions of Canadian census-farm operators using micro-level data from the 2001 Census of Agriculture combined with community level data from the 2001 Census of Population.

This product presents basic counts and totals for all 2006 Census of Agriculture farm variables and farm operator variables. Farm variables include number and type of farms; crop, horticulture and land use areas; land management practices; numbers of livestock and poultry; organic farming; computer use; farm machinery and equipment; farm capital; farm operating expenses and receipts and farm-related injuries. The farm operator variables depict the men and women who make the management decisions on Canadian farms. They include number of farm operators, age, sex, residence status, farm and non-farm work. The product provides a comprehensive picture of the agriculture industry across Canada.

These data from the 2006 Census of Agriculture are available at the Canada, province, territory, census agricultural region (CAR), census division (CD) and census consolidated subdivision (CCS) geographic levels.

This Cartographic Boundary File for Canada contains the boundaries of all 82 census agricultural regions delineated for the 2006 Census of Agriculture together with the shoreline around Canada and the larger inland lakes, all integrated in a single layer. The boundary file co-ordinates are latitude/longitude and are based on the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The file is available in both ARC/INFO Interchange and MapInfo Interchange formats and a reference guide is also provided.
