    Description:

    This Juristat article presents information on perceptions of personal safety and crime as reported by Canadians aged 15 and over living in the ten provinces. Using data from the 2009 General Social Survey (GSS) on victimization, it analyses Canadians' satisfaction with their personal safety from crime while performing specific activities, at both the provincial and census metropolitan area levels. It also includes information on Canadians' perceptions of the level of crime and social disorder in their neighbourhoods.

It is the seventh of a series of portraits of official-language minorities in Canada, prepared by Statistics Canada's Language Statistics Section.

    This portrait of the French-speaking population in Alberta contains information drawn from Canadian censuses from 1951 to 2006 and the Survey on the Vitality of Official-Language Minorities (SVOLM) conducted in 2006 by Statistics Canada. Census: The census data contained in this report are drawn from the long census questionnaire, completed by 20% of households and including 61 questions of which 7 are language-related.

    Survey on the Vitality of Official-Language Minorities (SVOLM): This is a cross-sectional sample survey. Respondents to the (SVOLM) are selected from the sample of persons who completed the long questionnaire in the 2006 Census.

    Description:

    This annual report is an examination of homicide in Canada. Detailed information is presented on the characteristics of homicide incidents (murder, manslaughter and infanticide), victims and accused within the context of both short and long-term trends. Geographical patterns of homicide are examined at the national and provincial/territorial levels, as well as for major metropolitan areas. Other key themes include gang-related homicides, firearm-related homicides, youth homicides and intimate partner homicides. The data are intended to respond to the needs of those who work in the criminal justice system as well as to inform researchers, policy analysts, academics, the media and the public on the nature and extent of homicide in Canada.

    Description: PISA is a collaborative effort among member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and is designed to provide policy-oriented indicators of the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students. PISA data shed light on a range of factors that contribute to successful students, schools and education systems. This report summarises the results from PISA 2009 for students in the minority-language school systems in Canada within the 7 provinces that reported data for both their English and French language school systems (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia). The purpose of the following analyses was to develop a profile of minority-language students in Canada (French outside of Quebec, English in Quebec) and the schools they attend.

As population aging is observed, a few themes are discussed: the senior population continues to grow, the population of older working-age increases and the share of children decreases. The author also examines the provincial and territorial variations of aging within Canada.
