The people of East Indian origin make up the second largest non-European ethnic group in Canada. In 2001, over 700,000 people of East Indian origin lived in Canada. That year, they made up 2.4% of the total Canadian population. This report describes the basic social and economic characteristics of people in Canada who have an ethnic or cultural ancestry that originates in East Asia, including their population characteristics, family status, educational attainment, labour force experience and incomes.
