Hate crime counts from the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey include both confirmed and suspected hate crime incidents. In 2025, there was a notable increase in police-reported hate crimes targeting the South Asian population, particularly in Ontario and British Columbia. Because this increase went against the broader declining trend for most other racialized or ethnic groups, it contributed to the overall stability in hate crimes targeting race or ethnicity. Annual changes in police-reported hate crime may reflect changes in reporting, identification by police, local context and investigative practices, as well as changes in the occurrence of hate-motivated crime. Information in this table reflects data reported by police services covering over 99% of the population of Canada. Data are excluded for the Dryden detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police in 2022, for the Saint John Police Force in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and for the Canadian Forces Military Police in 2025.
