This is a map of Canada by province and territory that shows the month-to-month percentage changes of the total building permits value. Green arrows represent an increase, while red arrows represent a decrease.

Building permit values in Canada were down 7.6% in April compared with March. Newfoundland and Labrador was up 11.2%, Prince Edward Island was up 27.4%, Nova Scotia was up 20.2%, New Brunswick down 16.2%, Quebec was up 11.5%, Ontario was down 1.9%, Manitoba was down 16.0%, Saskatchewan was down 20.4%, Alberta was up 3.3%, British Columbia was down 39.6%, Yukon was up 56.7%, the Northwest Territories was up 259.2% and Nunavut was down 81.6%.

Residential: The total value was down 5.5% month over month.

Non-residential: The total value was down 10.5% month over month.

Single-family dwellings: the total value was $2,668 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 0.3% or $8.1 million.

Multi-family dwellings: the total value was $4,815 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 8.2% or $429.7 million.

Industrial: the total value was $1,246 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 20.6% or $323.2 million.

Commercial: the total value was $2,321 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 5.7% or $125.6 million.

Institutional: the total value was $1,441 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 21.2% or $388.2 million.
