Canadian international trade in services, April 2026
Released: 2026-06-09
Canada's international imports of services increased 1.1% to $20.5 billion in April, while its exports decreased 0.9% to reach $20.6 billion. As a result, Canada's monthly international trade in services surplus narrowed from $0.5 billion in March to $0.1 billion in April.
Imports of travel services climbed 4.3% to reach $5.1 billion in April, as residents from countries other than the United States increased their spending in Canada. Commercial services (+0.5%) also contributed to the overall increase in imports, while transportation services (-1.3%) dampened it slightly.
Exports of commercial services were down 1.3% to $12.5 billion in April, driven by a decrease in financial services exports. The decline of financial services exports in April follows a substantial increase recorded in March due to high volumes of cross-border transactions in securities. Exports of transportation services declined 2.4% in April, while exports of travel services showed a slight increase of 0.4%.
