Table note 1

Includes mental or physical disability, language, sex or gender, age, immigrants or newcomers to Canada, a combination of more than two motivations, and other similar factors (e.g., occupation or political beliefs).

These offences are by definition hate crimes. The other listed offences are general Criminal Code offences, such as assault or uttering threats, motivated by hate.

Table note 3

General mischief includes all mischief-related violations except for mischief in relation to property used primarily for worship or by an identifiable group, which is captured separately.

Other non-violent offences include crimes against property (e.g., breaking and entering) or other non-violent criminal violations (e.g., disturbing the peace).
