This is a map of Canada by province and territory that shows the month-to-month percentage changes of the total building permits value. Green arrows represent an increase, while red arrows represent a decrease.

Building permit values in Canada were up 4.8% in January compared with the previous month. Newfoundland and Labrador was up 42.0%, Prince Edward Island was up 7.3%, Nova Scotia was up 10.9%, New Brunswick was down 19.4%, Quebec was up 27.5%, Ontario was up 12.7%, Manitoba was down 40.8%, Saskatchewan was up 7.6%, Alberta was up 0.2%, British Columbia was down 23.1%, Yukon was down 38.9%, Northwest Territories was up 504.1%, Nunavut was up 61.3%.

Residential: The total value was up 1.8% month over month.

Non-residential: The total value was up 9.4% month over month.

Single-family dwellings: the total value was $2,710 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 8.9% or $222.3 million.

Multi-family dwellings: the total value was $5,258 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 1.5% or $79.3 million.

Industrial: the total value was $1,156 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 44.6% or $356.8 million.

Commercial: the total value was $2,194 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 5.5% or $128.5 million.

Institutional: the total value was $2,027 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 13.2% or $235.7 million.
