Canada's monthly international trade in services surplus widened from $0.4 billion in September to $0.5 billion in October. Overall, imports of services declined 1.2% to $19.6 billion, and exports were down 0.4% to $20.1 billion.
Imports of commercial services fell 1.7% to $11.3 billion in October on declines in financial and non-financial services. Travel services imports were down 1.6% to $4.8 billion on lower spending by Canadian travellers internationally, in both US and non-US destinations. Imports of transportation services rose 1.3% to $3.2 billion, largely due to an increase in services related to the marine transportation of goods.
Exports of commercial services decreased 1.4% to $12.1 billion in October. This decrease was partially offset by increases in exports of travel services (+1.1%) and transportation services (+2.0%).

Total imports of goods increased 3.4% to $66.2 billion in October, and total exports of goods rose 2.1% to $65.6 billion. This resulted in the trade in goods balance going from a surplus of $0.2 billion in September to a deficit of $0.6 billion in October. Combined, the trade balance for goods and services amounted to a small deficit of $0.1 billion in October.

Note to readers
New publication dates for Canadian international trade in services statistics
As a result of the recent US government shutdown, Statistics Canada has announced new release dates for Canadian international trade in services statistics, with several months being affected.
Statistics for the November 2025 reference month are now scheduled to be published on January 29, 2026.
Tentative dates have been identified for the December 2025 reference month (February 19, 2026) and for the January 2026 reference month (March 12, 2026). These dates remain subject to change. Statistics Canada will communicate any updates to release dates should changes be necessary. Following these releases, it is expected that the publication of monthly international trade statistics will return to the originally planned release schedule.
Next release
Data on Canadian international trade in services for November 2025 are scheduled to be released on January 29, 2026.
