Machinery and Equipment Price Index, September 2025

Since October 2024, the Machinery and Equipment Price Index (MEPI) has shifted from being reported quarterly to monthly. Tables 18-10-0269-01 and 18-10-0270-01 have been replaced by new tables 18-10-0283-01 and 18-10-0284-01.

Data are available at the national level only.

The contribution of a given sub-aggregate to the composite price change depends on both the price change exhibited by the sub-aggregate and its importance in the basket, as measured by the weight.

With each release, data for the previous six months may have been revised. The MEPI is not seasonally adjusted.

Note on the impacts of the partial US government shutdown

On October 1, 2025, a partial shutdown of the US federal government came into effect, impacting the data received by Statistics Canada. As a result, index values for the import component of the MEPI presented in this release are preliminary and were produced using modelling techniques rather than the standard methodology. Users are advised to interpret the preliminary data with caution.
