Capital expenditures on environmental protection by businesses, 2022 and 2023
Released: 2025-11-21
Data on capital expenditures on environmental protection for the years 2022 and 2023 are now available. The data present estimates for industry groups not covered by the Environmental Protection Expenditures Survey, which provides information on the costs incurred by Canadian industries to protect the environment.
Note to readers
These data are based on the results from the Annual Capital Expenditures Survey (CAPEX). This survey includes a module on environmental protection and resource management, targeting industries that are not covered as part of the Environmental Protection Expenditures Survey (EPES). The CAPEX collects data on capital and repair expenditures in Canada and covers much of the economy on an annual basis. The target population comprises all business and government entities operating in Canada, classified according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 2022 during the reference year.
Estimates are computed at different levels of aggregation, such as by NAICS code and geographic region, based on the most recent classification information for the statistical entity and the survey reference period.
Users are cautioned that the table 38-10-0176 related to obstacles and drivers contains estimates reflecting a more detailed business level than the establishment level and therefore data should not be compared with similar tables for the EPES.
