This is a map of Canada by province and territory that shows the month-to-month percentage changes of the total building permits value. Green arrows represent an increase, while red arrows represent a decrease.

Building permit values in Canada were down 1.2% in August compared with July. Newfoundland and Labrador was down 14.0%, Prince Edward Island was up 17.6%, Nova Scotia was down 32.1%, New Brunswick was up 6.4%, Quebec was up 14.0%, Ontario was down 11.9%, Manitoba was up 37.8%, Saskatchewan was down 6.9%, Alberta was down 23.2%, British Columbia was up 36.7%, Yukon was up 207.2%, Northwest Territories was up 4,531.7% and Nunavut was down 90.8%.

Residential: The total value was down 2.4% month over month.

Non-residential: The total value was up 0.8% month over month.

Single-family dwellings: the total value was $2,494 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 4.3% or $112.3 million.

Multi-family dwellings: the total value was $4,518 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 1.3% or $61.5 million.

Industrial: the total value was $763 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 5.3% or $42.6 million.

Commercial: the total value was $2,108 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 6.0% or $134.0 million.

Institutional: the total value was $1,680 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 14.4% or $211.3 million.
