  Note to readers

The mother-centric data linkage was commissioned and funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Statistics Canada gratefully acknowledges the contributions and assistance of this organization.

Maternal information is obtained from the Canadian Vital Statistics - Birth database (CVSB) and the Canadian Vital Statistics - Stillbirth database. In addition, information for women with no birth or stillbirth record but who died from an obstetric cause are obtained from the Canadian Vital Statistics - Death database (CVSD). This information is combined to create the maternal cohort from 2010 to 2023. The cohort was linked to the Longitudinal Immigration Database, 2016 Census of Population long-form questionnaire, 2021 Census of Population long-form questionnaire, T1 Family File, the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) and the CVSD.

Information about infants was obtained from the CVSB and linked to the CVSD, the DAD and the NACRS.

The microdata can be accessed securely by government employees and accredited data users in the Federal Research Data Centre and Research Data Centres.
